Stuart Harris – Helping TPI’s Clients Answer the Question, “Where Do We Stand?”
As the leader of TPI’s Data Management Center of Excellence, TPI Partner Stuart Harris helps our clients get objective answers to their most pressing questions about where they stand when it comes to their sourcing relationships.
A specialist in the use of data for comparative purposes, Stuart’s primary responsibility is the collection and interpretation of data in forms that can add significant value and insight to client decision making, essentially providing a “yardstick” by which to measure their current states. His market data and insight helps address two of our clients’ most frequently asked questions as they navigate the increasingly complex sourcing marketplace:
- “Are we deriving the greatest possible value from our sourcing relationship(s)?”
- “Where do our sourcing agreements stand in comparison with our peers in the industry?”
“Knowledge and expert insights are the mainstays of advisory services firms that deliver exceptional value,” says Stuart, “and TPI’s one-of-a-kind capability to provide a strong data foundation to support our objective advice empowers our clients to maximize the results of their sourcing initiatives.”
Stuart is the visionary behind TPI’s Mark-to-Market assessment service, our enterprise-specific report that provides detailed comparisons of clients’ IT operating costs as compared to marketplace alternatives based on data from more than 100 engagements.
A noted authority and frequent speaker on the topic of contract benchmarking, Stuart has recently published a white paper that details TPI’s position on formal benchmarking in outsourcing contracts. He also led the data collection, analysis and publication of a TPI research report addressing the client drivers behind contract renegotiations and restructurings that exploded several widely held perceptions about this increasingly common occurrence during the life cycle of sourcing agreements.
Not only does he support our clients directly with market-facing data products, but Stuart also answers TPI advisors’ queries on specific client topics, backed by his experience on more than 100 IT-related engagements advising top multi-national corporations in the areas of benchmarking, development, management, negotiations, operations, service delivery and transaction analysis.
Previous to his TPI career, Stuart worked as an Executive Consultant for Compass America, advising Fortune 500 companies — including American Express, Bank of America, UBS Warburg and Target — on IT performance improvement. During his tenure, he completed a US$300 million outsourcing transaction involving RCA and IBM. Before joining Compass, Stuart held senior positions with ICL in the United States and the United Kingdom, leading the building of the company’s outsourcing business in the United States and managing outsourced operations in Europe.
Stuart stays busy traveling the United States and Europe to help TPI’s clients and assisting via phone around the globe when conducting Mark-to-Market studies. In his leisure time he has undertaken several journeys of a lifetime. An experienced marathon runner and mountain climber, his adventure travels have taken him up Mont Blanc in the French Alps and on expedition into Macchu Picchu in Peru. During 2007, Stuart anticipates his greatest challenge yet – an ascent to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Kerry McKeown – Applying Financial Acumen to Support Client Decision Making
Meet Kerry McKeown, a Senior Advisor who lives in the United Kingdom and works with TPI’s clients throughout Europe.
Kerry’s passion is leveraging her deep background in financial forecasting and control to help her clients evaluate their business operations and weigh the ramifications of various sourcing alternatives.
“I provide value to our clients by helping them to truly understand the cost of running their operations today and to recognize how their costs compare to market rates,” she explains.
Analyzing and comprehensively explaining the financial modeling of sourcing options during the strategic assessment phase of complex engagements gives Kerry a great sense of professional accomplishment. “I thoroughly enjoy helping clients navigate their way through the entire sourcing process by seeing the big picture,” she says. For clients who desire full support from assessment through transaction and governance phases, Kerry is with them all the way, advising and training clients’ internal teams in the TPI methodology, project phases, timelines and best practices-based processes that lead to long-term sourcing success.
One of the characteristics that clients most value about Kerry is her eagerness to absorb as much knowledge as she shares. “I relish the opportunity to gain insights into different operations and industries,” she says. Knowing the client is key to advising on the best-fit solution, she says, referring to complex information technology outsourcing (ITO) projects she has completed for ING and other global financial services companies in addition to a financial governance strategy for a global vehicle manufacturer.
Kerry becomes immersed in evaluating the most involved and technical topics for clients in various nations — facilitating complex vendor pricing and pricing negotiations, advising on pricing proposals and participating in commercial negotiations — yet she most appreciates the human interaction that her work provides. “I love the experiences that I gain from working with people of different European cultures and backgrounds,” she states.
In April, Kerry received TPI’s prestigious STAR award, an honor reserved for a select few employees in recognition of exemplary service. She has been a member of the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) since 1992 and of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) since 1996.
The vitality that Kerry brings to her work naturally spills over into her leisure activities. A self-described “endless and tireless” runner and horse rider; she also enjoys skiing, theatre and travel. She is a Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI) Registered Sports Diver.
