2007 YTD Industrywide Contracts With
TCV > US$50M: TCV (US$B) of Contracts Awarded

1H07 TPI Index Insider
The
1H07 TPI Index Insider details sourcing
industry activity and trends during the first
half of 2007, analyzing more than 1,900 active
commercial outsourcing contracts that together
will bring approximately US$73 billion of
annualized revenue to service providers this
year.
The first half of 2007 has
delivered mixed results in key areas of the
global sourcing marketplace. Highlights include:
- 25 percent decline in the number
of contracts awarded compared to the same period
in 2006
- Surprising, dramatic decline in
contract restructurings
- Larger average contract values,
fueled by growth in “new scope” (incremental
demand)
- Double digit increases in
annualized revenue in EMEA and Asia Pacific
regions
- Positive movement in the
Financial Services, Manufacturing,
Telecommunications and Energy sectors

Enterprises of various sizes and
complexity recently have accelerated their
interest in midrange server virtualization. They
view it as an innovative technique for reducing
hardware, software, environmental costs and
people costs within their IT environments. Chief
information officers and information technology
(IT) managers interested in virtualization would
be wise, however, to first thoroughly assess
their current IT environments and determine if
virtualization is appropriate for their
organizations. After considering the complexity,
challenges and novel characteristics of such an
initiative, if they decide it is viable, they
will need to develop a virtualization
implementation strategy that leads to a
cost-effective, manageable and efficient IT
infrastructure.
This paper discusses the
opportunities and challenges associated with
server virtualization initiatives, presents
issues that enterprises should consider prior to
undertaking virtualization projects and makes
recommendations on how enterprises should launch
and implement such projects. |
