Solutions for Global Sourcing Challenges Revealed in New Book by TPI Experts

HOUSTON, November 13, 2007 – TPI is pleased to announce a new book written by company executives that provides an essential guide for modern-day sourcing project management. Jim Hussey and Steven Hall, project directors, Global Services and Delivery Advisory Services Practice at TPI; co-authored Managing Global Development Risk. The authors utilize their real world experience working in a global sourcing environment to address the constant challenges that emerge for program managers executing global software development projects.

While global sourcing has increased in popularity and has expanded in terms of activities, there are consistent challenges that arise for organizations including maximizing the opportunity afforded by globalization, realization of potential gains, and managing the risks inherent to global software development.  In addition to the challenges faced by organizations in general, there are specific challenges for project managers in charge of a sourcing arrangement in which, all too often, they are not being provided with the proper resources to succeed.  Hussey and Hall walk the reader through the governing philosophy for project managers working with an offshore component of guiding and influencing a team, versus a more classic management style of maintaining direct control.

Project managers will be able to utilize the processes, checklists, and templates within this book to acquire the essential skills such as: knowledge of project management principles and software development processes and their applications, insight into the diverse personalities within a global development team, and the appropriate management and communications style to achieve success, in addition to much needed awareness of cultural issues and mannerisms that will enhance one’s ability to guide a team along with the ability to apply the principles this unique work requires. This text is an important tool to achieve success in a critical area of today’s global economy.

Managing Global Development Risk is available on www.amazon.com and themes and insights from the book will be explored on TPI’s blog (www.considerthesourceblog.com).
